Generating Electricity for Friction off the Tire Road - Sumitomo Co-orporation

TOKYO: Everything from cars continues to be updated to modern, but no innovation can be seen in car tires. But now a Japanese company has said that a slight change in the tires will enable them to produce a small amount of power.

Generating Electricity for Friction off the Tire Road - Sumitomo Co-orporation

Good Air Tire Company

Earlier, in 2015, the Good Air Tire Company introduced the concept of generating electricity for friction off the tire road. Now the idea has been given to some extent by the Sumitomo company. Sumitomo, with the support of Kindai University of Japan, has led the work. It has a small device mounted inside the tire that stores electricity.

The electric generator generates two layers of rubber inside which the electrodes are hidden. It has a negatively charged layer and a positively charged layer. As the tire rotates through the road, it produces a kind of electric force called electrostatic electricity.
In this way the tire generates electricity through the force of friction. Although the amount of power it generates is modest, it can operate on many smaller devices. These can include car radios, dashboard lights, or other sensors. Earlier, a number of tire power projects have been worked on by experts at the University of Wisconsin. University experts demonstrated the power of a toy jeep's tires.

Sumitomo Tire has not given any details of the project nor did it say when it will be offered in the market. But the company says it will initially test the tire's power to operate its pressure measuring sensor. After that, it will be possible to supply power to other devices by further improving the whole system.
